Proper containment during a mold remediation is crucial to preventing cross contamination of mold spores to other areas of the property. If proper containment is not utilized you or the contractor you hire could be putting you and your family at risk. If mold spores are not properly contained they can be spread throughout your home. This is especially important if any of the occupants of the home or business suffer from mold allergies or have a compromised immune system.  Make sure the contractor you hire includes the use of containment and air scrubbers that help clean the air while they are working are included in their job scope and/or proposal.

Proper Containment:
1.    Should use a minimum of 4mil plastic
2.    Should seal off air from coming into or out of the work area
3.    The contained doorway should make use of a double flap or special zipper

It’s also important that the company you hire is certified to perform a mold remediation and also has special mold pollution insurance coverage that is included on their General Liability Insurance policy.

Another thing to consider when hiring a contractor is to get referrals from third parties that have done business with the contractor.
